Installer Pilot Program
We are currently working to create "installs" for our students who have successfully passed their NABCEP Solar PV/Entry Level Exam. As projects come up, we are able to provide an instructor and limited number of students who need their additional two (2) installs in order to sit for the NABCEP Solar Installers exam. Below are photos showing our instructor and students installing a Solar PV system in Edina.
If you have a project in mind that could use our NABCEP Certified Installer/Instructor, contact Dave Baker at 651.846.1583 to discuss.
This design is an example of what our students learn to do. This was a real project that was accepted.
The Solar PV Design & Technical Sales Certificate course is based on North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Job Task Analysis, and is open to anyone who wishes to enter the renewable energy field. This course requires physical activities. Ladder handling, climbing, roof safety, ropes and working with heights. If you are unsure about any or all of these activities, this course may not be for you!
The Solar PV Design & Technical Sales Certificate is a 250 hour course will introduce different methods of conducting a solar site assessment using contemporary technology to determine the solar viability of the site. After the site assessment, you will learn how to develop a design that optimizes the economic and energy opportunities of a given site. You will be guided to understand the economics of contemporary solar applications including rebate requirements, leading to a complete sales proposal.
Understanding the relationship of solar PV and the existing electrical infrastructure requires an emphasis on electrical technology. Given an understanding of how systems work, the student will develop the ability to communicate to electricians who are NABCEP certified to do the installations. Students are required to pass the NABCEP Entry Level Exam. This course requires skills in Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry to complete required tasks.
Computer software programs are used for shading, solar performance, economics and design. Using programs such as; Solar Pathfinder, Homer, PV Watts, PV Designer, Pictometry, EnergyPeriscope, OnGrid and Sketch-Up to develop solar sales proposals. Instruction on MS WORD, Excel Basic/ Intermediate and operating system is included. Financial analysis using spreadsheets and professional programs such as OnGrid gives the student power in their presentation and proposals. Formulas for return on investment, present value, cost of money and financing are covered. Sales principals and establishing good customer relationships are also highlighted.
Safety First principals are utilized in a full day of hands-on roof top training, taught by a roof safety & Rock Climbing expert sets the foundation for a long career. OSHA 10 certification is included. Class room study and out of class room site visits on real projects, makes this course one of the best.
