Saint Paul College student Phoua Kong named MSCSA 2012-13 “Student Leader of the Year”

Saint Paul College student senate president Phoua Kong was recently named the 2012-13 “Student Leader of the Year” by the Minnesota State College Student Association (MSCSA) at their Annual Awards Dinner.

The “Student Leader of the Year” honor is bestowed upon one student leader annually by MSCSA. Kong was nominated for the award by a fellow student leader from another campus and was selected by the MSCSA statewide student leadership to receive the honor.

Kong helped plan and develop the curriculum for the largest MSCSA Presidents’ Retreat ever. The Presidents’ Retreat helped launch one of MSCSA’s most successful years where almost 7,000 voters were registered to vote and record numbers of campuses attend MSCSA leadership conferences.

Kong also transformed the monthly Presidents’ Group meetings into information sessions where campuses shared best practices on topics including campus communication, financial aid disbursement and tuition consultation.

Kong accepted the award at the MSCSA Spring General Assembly on Saturday, April 20.
