U.S. Labor Secretary Perez Visits Saint Paul College

U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas Perez visited Saint Paul College Friday, promoting workforce and educational pathways. He was joined by Mayor Chris Coleman, to highlight to partnerships that exist between the City of Saint Paul, Saint Paul Public Schools, and Saint Paul College.

During his visit, Secretary Perez toured campus and met with Computer Science students and their instructors, Warren Sheaffer and Jim Woodcock. Secretary Perez also engaged in a round table discussion where he listened to students’ experiences with education and partnership programs in Saint Paul.

The U.S. Department of Labor recently awarded Saint Paul Public Schools a four-year, $3.7 million grant to expand an Academy of Finance at Como Park Senior High School and to create a new Academy of Information Technology at Humboldt High School. Saint Paul College is the post-secondary partner to the Youth CareerConnect program and will offer two-year degree programs in these fields to prepare students for high-demand STEM jobs.
