E2 Events – Black History Month

Expanding Minds. Embracing Difference.

black history month

Saint Paul College Student Life is sponsoring four different events in celebration of Black History Month. Don’t miss out on the three different “RACE the power of an illusion series” episodes being presented in the Theatre, and the “End of Racism Comedy and Lecture Tour” featuring Preacher Moss.

RACE the power of an illusion series:

Episode I: The Difference Between Us

Everyone can tell a Norwegian from a Nubian, so why doesn’t it make sense to sort people into biological races? This episode will examine the contemporary science – including genetics – that challenges our assumptions about human groups.

Thursday, February 2, 2012
11:00am – 12:20pm in the Theatre

Episode 2: The Story We Tell

Hasn’t race always been with us? Explore the roots of the race concept, including the 19th-century science that justified it and how it gained such a hold over our minds.

Thursday, February 9, 2012
11:00am – 12:20pm in the Theatre

Episode 3: The House We Live In

Race may be a biological myth, but racism gives different groups vastly different life chances. Forty years after the Civil Rights Movement, the playing field is still not level and “colorblind” policies only

Thursday, February 16, 2012
11:00am – 12:20pm in the Theatre

E2 Program

End of Racism Comedy and Lecture Tour featuring Preacher Moss

The "End of Racism" is not just the name of the tour, but a commitment that we all share. Preacher Moss knows how to deliver the goods on how we see race through laughter, respect and the humility of a man who felt the sting of racism for not just blacks, but whites, gays, Latinos, as the poor and the underclass of America.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012
11:30am – 12:30pm in the Theatre

Sponsored by Student Life.
