A: Average class size is 20-25.

A: Our graduates in 2003 are all working in the field. Since 2000, we have 100% placement, and it is predicted that jobs in this field will continue to increase.

Q: Can I graduate in 2 years?
A: Yes, if you go full-time, carry 16-17 credits/semester, or take summer school. We have also begun an accelerated cohort program for folks who are working in the field full-time and want to earn their degree. Students would attend classes one night a week year-round, for 40 months.

Q: What is required to become a family child care provider in my home?
A: The Minnesota Dept. of Human Services regulates licensed child care programs. At this time, a person who provides care in their home for non-related children must be licensed if they care for more than one family. Licensing involves making sure the home is safe and meets the minimum safety requirements (exits, fire extinguishers, equipment, etc.). Training required is 6-9 hours each year.

To be an asst. teacher in a child care center, a person must have 2 years experience and at least 8 semester credits of child development coursework (college-level). To be a teacher in a child care center, a person must have 2 years experience and at least 16 semester credits of child development coursework (college-level).

Q: Can I become licensed to teach in the public school system?
A: Our two-year degree qualifies an individual to be an assistant teacher in the public schools, but not a licensed lead teacher. It is possible to transfer our 2-year degree to a 4-year college and become licensed to teach in the public schools (with a 4-year degree).
