Program Director/Instructor
e-mail Jeff Gurney

Jeff Gurney graduated from the College of St. Catherine with an Associate of Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy in 1997. He began his health care career at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota in the Respiratory Care department, and still works in that capacity on a part time basis. An interest in the management of in-home ventilators led him to a position with Pediatric Home Service, Roseville, MN, that allowed him to coordinate equipment and supply related aspects of the transition from hospital to home for the child with “high-tech” medical needs as well as facilitate ongoing care including overnight in-home sleep studies, with an accent on education for the patient and caregivers. Jeff entered the polysomnography field in 2002, working at an adult sleep lab associated with the Fairview/University of Minnesota health care system. He has worked as a technician at Children’s Hospital Pulmonary Diagnostics and Pediatric Sleep Lab since 2003, and is a mentor to new employees.

Jeff received his RPSGT credential in 2006, as well as a baccalaureate degree from Metropolitan State University in Healthcare Communication. Though he may be new to formal teaching, he has spent much of his health care career imparting new concepts to caregivers in the home setting, and recently completed his baccalaureate degree so he could make a further transition to teaching. He’s always been interested in understanding how others learn, how people’s minds work, and explaining concepts in a way that is effective for individual learners. "It’s kind of like a puzzle!" he says. In his free moments, Jeff rides his road bike and plays the bass violin.
