Appliance Field Service Technician


Program Overview

Appliance field service technicians maintain refrigeration, airconditioning, and major appliance equipment. They also work with electrical components, motors, gearbox assembly, valves, switches, thermostats, timing controls, pressure regulators, manual controls, heaters, and pressure systems. Students will become adept at diagnosing electrical malfunctions, testing operations, checking electrical components and circuit-tracing schematics. EPA Refrigeration Certification is offered in the Summer Term for full-time students and is also offered several times per year in the evening. Employment projections published by Minnesota Jobs and Training show a 34.6 percent increase in household appliance repairer occupations and a 12.2 percent increase in refrigeration mechanic occupations.
