Tom Hillstead has been an instructor in the Cabinetmaking program since 2002. Tom graduated from the Saint Paul College Cabinetmaking program in 1990 and has worked in the industry since then, specializing in both residential and commercial cabinetry. He has always been a woodworker and knows well that sense of accomplishment when a project is completed. Perhaps that’s why his favorite part of teaching is “the student projects when finished, to see all the hard work they (the students) have done.”

Tom Hillstead and his Cabinetmaking students have worked extensively with the Homeward Bound projects, working alongside Carpentry instructor Tim Strand, and his students, in this special initiative. They have helped in remodeling and making the Homeward Bound homes fully accessible to accommodate people with special needs. Tom Hillstead and Tim Strand received plaques from Homeward Bound during the Saint Paul College Fall In-service for faculty and staff, honoring them for their outstanding contributions to Homeward Bound. They received a standing ovation from their coworkers.
