Metro Regional Meeting for New Perkins IV Grant
Associate Dean Margie Tomsic and Vice President Peggy Kennedy attended the April 9 Metro Regional Meeting at the Department of Education for the New Perkins Career and Technical Education Grant (Perkins IV) along with partners from the Saint Paul Public Schools to learn more about the FY08 Transitional Grant which is due on May 21, 2007. The new Perkins legislation was recently ratified and requires greater college/public school collaboration. It also reduces funding for schools that are unable to adhere to mandated, pre-established benchmarks. Unlike the previous grant which contained plans with up to 13 goals, the current plan requires funds to be split among five broad goal areas which include: 1) high school to college transitions, 2) collaboration, 3) employer, community and education partners, 4) special populations and 5) the development of a new consortium structure, planning and development. In addition, no more than 5% of the grant can be used for administrative costs.
