Do you need help with your assignment? Are you having trouble writing, organizing or revising a paper? Is an algebra equation being uncooperative? Would you like to achieve a more thorough understanding of a particular subject? If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions, please know that the Academic Support Center is here to help you achieve your academic goals. Location
The Academic Support Center (ASC) is located in Room 166. The ASC provides free, walk-in tutoring for a variety of subjects.
Support
Getting support is easy:
- Check the Tutoring Schedule online or outside Room 166.
- Find a time that works for you.
- Walk in and say "Hi!"
Online Tutoring
The Academic Support Center also offers an online tutoring service for Writing and Speech.
To access the Academic Support Center’s online tutoring service, please complete the following steps:
- Send an email to asupport@saintpaul.edu.
- Type either "online tutoring-writing" or "online tutoring-speech" into the email "Subject" field.
- Type your complete name and 8-digit student ID number at the top of the body of your email.
- Type any specific questions you may have about your assignment or paper.
- Attach your paper or assignment to your email, if needed, and then send it.
- Please allow 24 business hours for a response.
Smarthinking Online Tutoring - New!
Smarthinking is a live online tutoring service that is available to all current students. Learn more about how to access this free service.
Important Reminders for Students
You will make the most of your tutoring session if you do the following:
- Prepare specific questions for your tutor.
- Bring your assignment, textbook, directions and syllabus.
- Start the assignment (in other words, try to do it).
- Bring a positive attitude and a willingness to try.
The goal of our tutors is to help you become more independent in your learning. Tutors are not permitted to do any of your work for you, including correcting or "checking" your homework/assignment/paper, proofreading or editing your paper, or teaching you course content because you have been absent from class.
Tutors will do the following for students:
- Review rules, concepts and types of problems
- Ensure that you are following directions correctly
- Find patterns of errors in your paper
- Give you feedback on your paper
- Help you organize your writing
- Help you find your own answers
- Offer study tips
- Offer encouragement
- Direct you to self-help resources
