Saint Paul College A Community & Technical College

Eleventh Week of Spring Semester 2019
Pharmacy Technician ASHP accredited

Congratulations to instructor Hannah Kokesh, CPhT, above, and team for receiving reaffirmed accreditation from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists for the Saint Paul College Pharmacy Technician program. In 2017, Kokesh also received the 2017 Outstanding Technician Award from the Minnesota Society of Health-System Pharmacists, recognizing her work and commitment to Saint Paul College students, and advocacy and advancement of the Pharmacy Technician program. The Pharmacy Technician programs have been very important career options that have added to the growth of our Health Sciences division.

All of our instructors are central to the success of the programs offered by Saint Paul College, for which we are very grateful. The expertise, commitment and dedication of our faculty ensures that our students are receiving excellent instruction and training, preparing them for immediate employment or continuing their educational journeys at 4-year colleges and universities.

Here’s a short recap of a few of my activities this week

Faculty Interviews

The vice president of Academic Affairs and I interviewed several candidates for faculty positions at the College. Investing in full-time faculty positions is a strategic priority, and advances our commitment to Teaching and Learning.

Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood

I attended a Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood board of directors meeting to discuss progress with current strategic planning, Promise Neighborhood outcomes, and current strategies in progress, as well as steps we must take as a council as we embark on the new strategic planning process. I also took part in strategic planning processes/long term planning and Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood-Saint Paul Public Schools alignment processes.

Meeting with a Community Leader

I met with a community leader who is interested in Saint Paul College’s programs and Minnesota’s current and future economic and workforce trends, and pursuing philanthropic engagement at the College to support students.

Open Meeting with College Community

To promote open and transparent communication, I held open office hours for faculty and staff to drop in. I am grateful for their dedication and commitment to our students and this college.

Neighborhood House Board Meeting

I attended a Neighborhood House board meeting. Neighborhood House is a multi-service agency in St. Paul that provides free wrap-around services for people when they need it most, such as help with basic needs, education, youth programs, and health and well-being.

Honorary Consul General of Liberia

Our F-1 International Student advisor, our director of One Stop Services, and I met with the Honorary Consul General, the first Liberian honorary consul of Minnesota, and the assistant minister from Liberia to discuss potential outreach and partnership for training students from Liberia. It was good news from the White House on 3/28/2019 about extending the wind-down period for an additional 12 months, through March 30, 2020: Memorandum on Extension of Deferred Enforced Departure for Liberians.

Seeking CAAHEP Surgical Technician Accreditation

Hosting Senator Karin Housely

The major gift officer of the Friends of Saint Paul College Foundation and I hosted and provided a tour to Senator Karin Housely. We emphasized the critical role that Saint Paul College plays in meeting workforce needs by providing well-prepared, well-educated and skilled graduates, to help curb the talent shortage of Minnesota’s business and industries. Saint Paul College is a catalyst for change in both economic development and economic mobility of our constituents.

In the news

Star Tribune 3/24/19 - New DEED commissioner and former Google executive wants to encourage innovation in Minnesota. Steve Grove's goals include encouraging innovation and addressing economic inequalities.

Finally, I am very proud as to how we strive to remain relevant and active in so many aspects of this this institution, society and our community. I admire faculty, staff and students seeking improvement in all areas of the College, including program growth and recognition, and Student Life and Student Senate promoting positive student experiences. We keep employer and community connections strong to make sure we are meeting the needs of those seeking the means to earn a good wage and provide for their families. I am very grateful for all those supporting Saint Paul College and our students.

I want to wish you all a safe and relaxing weekend.

My best, Rassoul
