Saint Paul College was recently featured in the Higher Learning Commission (HLC)’s newsletter,
The Leaflet. The digital article focused on the college’s participation in the HLC first-ever Student Success Academy.
With the help from the Student Success Academy, the new leadership at Saint Paul College implemented significant changes:
- Realigning our focus on the whole student rather than relying on success/failure rates often evaluated in assessing student success rates – we became more interested and focused on the student's well-being beyond the classroom.
- In response to growing mental health challenges, we increased our availability of mentoring and hiring mental health counselors to assist students facing trauma or uncomfortable ways.
- Establishing policies and protocols to become an anti-racist, trauma-informed (ARTI) institution to help all students comfortably fit in on campus.
All of this work is beginning to pay off for the college. Not only has enrollment risen over the last year, but the college has also seen fewer students withdrawing from courses.
