Thank you teachers! This week is Teacher Appreciation Week. A time set aside to express thanks to educators for an often times challenging profession. To honor our instructors here at Saint Paul College, we asked a simple question:
Why do you teach?
We highlighted below some of our instructors responses which we’ll be adding to throughout the week.
Craig Maus, Business Instructor
#WhyITeach : "It’s the students, the students, the students. Everyday it is (I) the teacher who is learning from the students. The teaching/learning and interaction with students is why I teach – it’s just fun! Also working with excellent staff and fellow teachers keeps me interested and energized."
Marcie Smith-Fields, Cosmetology Instructor
#WhyITeach : “Why do I teach? I teach because I am challenged daily by my students to grow in compassion and wisdom. The best moment is witnessing a student grasp a concept for the first time. There is no better reward than helping a student finally reach clarity.”
Ed Schones, Electrical Technology Instructor
#WhyITeach : “I teach to help my students be relevant. I teach to, in some cases help break the cycle of poverty.”
Julie Haider, Philosophy Instructor
#WhyITeach : “I love teaching because I get to be involved in the lives of amazing people as they learn about, wrestle with, question, and reflect on interesting and potentially life-changing ideas!”
