Autumn days are getting shorter and our unusually warm weather is turning cooler, but there always remains a feeling of warmth and optimism at Saint Paul College. I hope you continue to enjoy fall semester. I want to take this opportunity to thank the College community for making this week’s Open House a remarkable and successful experience for the community that our College serves.
Undoubtedly, a great number of dedicated people worked very hard in the preparation for this event. I want to recognize our student government, student leaders, academic and student affairs (faculty/staff), communication/ marketing, facilities, IT, friends of Saint Paul College, public safety, food service, print shop/copying, administrative team, and staff from various units at the college for offering assistance to our new and potential future students. You serve as a great role model for our students.
I firmly believe that being a student-centered institution is in our DNA. Our dedicated faculty members and tireless staff deliver our motto of,
“when you start here, you can go anywhere,” to our students.
Here’s a short recap of my activities and meetings this week:
Governor Dayton’s Reception for Mexican Students - I attended a wonderful event hosted at the Governor’s Residence where the Governor hosted the Mexico Trades Mission as well as exchange students from Mexico who are pursuing their higher education in Minnesota's higher education institutions.
Metro Baccalaureate Degree Planning - Met at
Anoka Ramsey Community College to discuss degree planning.
All Nations Student Association – This student group captivated the College community during the lunch hour, sharing traditional dancing, singing and a bit of history. Every day as I walk around our campus, I am reminded how blessed we are to be a part of such a diverse college community. I see people from all over the world with many backgrounds, heritages, and experience, a beautiful tapestry of humanity… people who come to us in search of transforming experiences ––
our students are amazing and remarkable.
Open House – We hosted our annual Fall Open House on Wednesday, where more than 400 prospective students attended. Both current and future students are busy registering for Spring 2016. Don’t delay.
Music Series - After the Open House, our very own Saint Paul College student,
Hilary Thavis, with special guest
Butch Thompson gave a musical performance in the theatre featuring blues and ragtime tunes.
Central Corridor Anchor Partnership (CCAP) Executive Board Meeting – We hosted this group here at the College and discussed the future of health related workforce sector occupations.
United Hospital Foundation – Attended the major gifts and fund raising committee meeting.
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) - I gave remarks at the PTK Induction Ceremony. It is inspiring to see such a talented group of students.
Generation Next - I attended the Generation Next Leadership Council meeting
Minneapolis Community and Technical College – I attended this meaningful and intentional fundraiser for student scholarships
Metro Alliance - Metro Presidents gathered at
Inver Hills. We meet regularly and work collaboratively to discuss important tops and plan critical initiatives.
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) - Attended the Saint Paul Chapter of NAACP dinner.
Finally, I want to bring to your attention this fantastic article that was published this week featuring the Saint Paul College Culinary Arts Program:
Saint Paul College Cultivates Industry Pros With Revamped Program by Laura Michaels
To our students, if you have not registered for Spring 2016, please do so.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
Be Bold. Be Inspired. Be Relevant. Amazing things are happening here.
