The Final Week of Fall Semester

As classes end throughout this week and students take their finals, our hallways have far less traffic as students finish for the semester. You can almost hear a collective sigh of relief every time someone finishes their finals, turns in that final paper. I wish all of our students a happy and well deserved break between semesters!

It’s always bittersweet, knowing that some students are completing their programs this week, proud to have earned their degree, diploma or certificate and are on their way for the next leg of their journey. For others, our frontline offices are still bustling as prospective students prepare to start their journey here on January 9, 2017. That’s the joyous ebb and flow of higher education!

Here’s a brief recap of the main meetings of my week:

  • Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Leadership Council - I attended the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities leadership council meetings over a two-day period with other Minnesota State presidents.
  • Central Corridor Anchor Partnership – I attended the Central Corridor Anchor Partnership (CCAP) Executive Committee meeting to discuss and promote workforce system strategies for the healthcare occupational sector.
  • Generation Next Annual Meeting – Saint Paul College hosted the Generation Next Annual Meeting and I was invited to give the welcome and update our intentional partners on what the College is accomplishing. Generation Next is committed to student success from early childhood to early career, and we are proud to work with them on helping children succeed.

Highlight of this Week

Perhaps many of you have even seen the Medal of Honor recipients in their recent #mannequinchallenge. In my mind’s eye, what our students accomplish can rival the Medal of Honor recipients in the heart, commitment and drive that is the hallmark of their personal success and contributions to this world. Please enjoy the spirit of the many faces of Saint Paul College in our holiday greeting.
