Beyond Chit Chat – Communication for Connections
We talk every day with a host of people ranging from our family, co-workers, and strangers we meet along the way. Everyday conversation can feel easy and comfortable but making intentional connections through conversation can feel a bit more stressful and awkward. Join us for this interactive workshop to boost your knowledge of the value of oral communication, roll up your sleeves to practice connecting with others, and lay the foundation of an elevator speech for future networking and interviews! Let’s get ready to drop the mic on sporting our strong communication skills!
Gina Anselmo joined Saint Paul College in March 2019 as the Training and Development Specialist to support our staff community with enrichment and professional development. Prior, she served as Director of Career Development and Major Exploration at the University of Illinois at Chicago in which she created exploratory resources for students while providing guidance to academic advising staff. Gina began as a social worker and transitioned to Manager of College and Career Programs at Marwen supporting first-generation students prepare for college. Prior to UIC, Gina provided career advising, programming, and supervision of graduate counseling students at DePaul University. Gina has years of teaching experience and facilitating customized trainings to industry professionals in engaging ways. Gina earned her Master of Arts in Social Work from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Northern Illinois University. In her space, Gina enjoys being surrounded by either books or dogs. Gina is a strong supporter of animal welfare and donates her time at a range of animal shelters including Can Do Canines, Animal Humane Society, and This Old Horse.

Written Communication - Are you being heard?
Communication is something that comes “natural” as you simply talk, right? Communication comes in many forms. One of the most difficult forms to master is written communication. Are you being clear? Will your audience understand what you are trying to express? How do you know? In this workshop we will discover ways in which to use written communication successfully. You’ll have the opportunity to practice and to get feedback. Written communication is vitally important to your success as a student, employee and a citizen. Join us and find out how to master your writing!
Kim Turner-Rush came to Saint Paul College in 2018 and is currently a faculty member in the Business Division. Prior to Saint Paul College, Kim served as the Assistant Dean of the Undergraduate Programs at the Carlson School of Business and the Interim Vice President of Student Affairs at Northern Kentucky University. Kim earned a Diploma from Gateway Community and Technical College, then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing at Northern Kentucky University, a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from the University of Louisville, a Master of Business Administration from Morehead State University, and is currently in the Doctor of Education program at St. Cloud State University. She is active with Women's Advocates and the Domestic Abuse Legal Advocacy Center.
