The syllabus serves as a key component of course design, shaping relationships and setting expectations. However, syllabi face conflicting demands, aiming to convey care and inclusivity while navigating institutional policies and legal constraints. We might think of the syllabus as “overburdened.” This session unpacks the complexities of syllabus design, addressing tensions in the syllabus today. Through discussion and sharing strategies, participants will explore ways to prioritize student learning given these competing demands.
