Apply for Innovation Grant Funding

At Saint Paul College, we believe bold ideas are built on a foundation of purpose, innovation, and resilience. We’re putting that belief into action with the launch of the Innovation Fund. Developed through the work of the Comprehensive Planning Committee, this fund supports initiatives that reflect the spirit of our Promise Plan and drive measurable impact across the college.

About the Fund

Saint Paul College will award up to $50,000 annually. Multiple recipients may be selected, and we encourage applications for projects of any amount up to the total.

Application info

The online application portal will open on September 18. We encourage all interested faculty and staff to submit their innovative ideas. Applications are due October 30, 2026.

Purpose
The Innovation Fund at Saint Paul College empowers employees to propose bold, high-impact projects that align with institutional strategic priorities, student success, enrollment growth, operational efficiency, and the Promise Plan 2030. It fosters a culture of experimentation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Strategic Alignment
The Innovation Grant Fund aligns with Saint Paul College’s institutional priorities of the Promise Plan (strategy 2), and Vision 2028 to foster a culture of strategic experimentation and continuous improvement.

Eligibility
All employees are eligible with specific conditions for bargaining unit members, part-time, adjunct, and temporary staff. Projects must align with job responsibilities and have supervisory approval.

Funding

  • Annual Fund: $50,000 available per fiscal year.
  • Application Cycles: Fall and Spring. A Spring funding cycle will be offered only if funds remain after the Fall cycle.

Timeline

  • Proposal Deadline: The last Friday in October
  • Notification of Decisions: By the end of December
  • Public Announcement of Awards: January Town Hall
  • Project Start Date: Projects may begin once award recipients have been notified and a Workday cost center has been established.
  • Funding Duration: Funding requests for a single project may cover a maximum project period of 3 years. Proposals must include a clear implementation timeline and business plan for the duration of the project. After the funding period ends, the same project may not receive a consecutive grant
  • Participation in this process is optional, and grant funds may not be used to pay proposers for their own work. Any compensation for employee participation must comply with applicable bargaining agreements.
  • Grant funds may not be used for sabbatical expenses.
  • Student stipends are permissible.
  • Requests for new employee positions will not be considered.

Evaluation Criteria
Criteria include project clarity, need, goals, student impact, innovativeness, sustainability, and alignment with strategic priorities.

Review Process

  1. Proposals are reviewed by both the Comprehensive Planning Committee (CPC) and the Executive Cabinet (EC), using a standardized rubric (max 100 points).
  2. Scoring: Both the CPC and the EC members independently score proposals with qualitative feedback.
  3. Consensus: CPC meets to finalize scores and rankings as does EC (separate meetings).
  4. Final Decision: CPC sends rankings to EC meeting, final decisions made by EC.
  5. Follow-up: Applicants receive feedback; committee evaluates the process for improvements.

Scoring Rubric Overview
The scoring rubric evaluates proposals based on:

  • Project clarity
  • Identified need
  • Defined goals
  • Impact on students
  • Sustainability
  • Alignment with strategic priorities
  • Innovation

Goals/objectives and alignment to institutional priorities hold slightly more weight than the other sections.

Reporting Requirements
Funded projects require progress and final reporting to ensure accountability and measure impact.
