Blessing’s Story
Blessing is a dreamer whose ambition knows no limit. Before joining SPC, she was trying to fulfill all her childhood dreams. She was a hairstylist, earned her CDA, became a preschool teacher, and travelled around the world. None of these paths was her passion. Instead, she made one more pivot to SPC, where she joined the ASL program, one of the best in the state. Pursuing this dream, which she has had since childhood, with a strong education was an opportunity she could not pass up.
Blessing has taken every advantage at SPC. She believes that the incredible faculty has made a real difference, enabling her to achieve her goals. She has also been able to travel twice to Washington D.C. for conferences and advocacy, including speaking with the U.S. Department of Educations about the impact of federal funding on students. Then she went to the Student Government Association of America conference in Orlando, Florida. Her experience learning about Gallaudet University, the world’s only liberal arts university for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. These experiences have informed her plans after graduation.
Blessing wants to continue her education and become an ASL interpreter. Her final dream is to open the first HBCU for deaf and hard-of-hearing students, and those students interested in the deaf community.
Blessing’s Advice to Anyone Considering SPC:
If there’s any advice I could give to someone considering attending Saint Paul College, it would be to try everything and get involved on campus. I promise it makes your experience so much better. Enjoy the journey—don’t rush through it. Take your time and really soak it all in. Of course, one con is balancing homework because it can take up a lot of time, but the truth is, time is going to pass anyway. So you might as well make memories while you’re here.
