100% of We Thrive students who qualified for graduation (26 students) walked across the graduation stage in May 2026.

In May, a room at Saint Paul College was filled with excitement, pride, and possibility. At the We Thrive graduation reception, 18 graduating and transfer students presented capstone projects that reflected both their personal growth and their commitment to making a difference. Their ideas ranged from community-focused initiatives to recommendations for improving the student experience on campus.

One student’s proposal highlighted the need for an on-campus health clinic. The idea resonated so strongly that Saint Paul College faculty and staff are now exploring ways to bring it to life. It was just one example of how students in the program are not only pursuing their own goals but also helping shape the future of their college and community.

Among those inspired by the event was Tameka Davidson, Community Impact Manager at the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota.

As students received their We Thrive stoles in preparation for commencement, the celebration underscored what makes the program special: a strong sense of community. The event honored not only academic achievement but also the relationships, encouragement, and support that helped students overcome challenges along the way.

Creating Pathways to Success

The Women’s Foundation of Minnesota created We Thrive to advance economic justice by supporting BIPOC women and gender-expansive students. Through its partnership with Saint Paul College, the program helps remove barriers that can make it more difficult to earn a certificate, diploma, or degree.

The program’s impact is reflected in its strong student outcomes. During the 2025-2026 academic year, We Thrive served 63 participants, achieved a 92% retention rate, and celebrated a remarkable 100% graduation rate among eligible program participants. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of the program’s holistic approach to supporting student success. Looking ahead, 28 students are expected to return and continue their educational journey in the 2026-2027 academic year.

In the most recent funding cycle, the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota awarded $1,125,000 to community investment across the state, including Saint Paul College, to continue this work.

Students often face challenges that extend beyond tuition costs. A lack of childcare, transportation, technology, or specialized equipment can impede success. We Thrive helps bridge those gaps through support such as:

• Tuition assistance
• Laptops and technology resources
• Childcare stipends
• Transportation support
• Funding for tools and trade equipment
• Coaching and mentorship

Thriving Beyond Graduation

The impact of We Thrive extends far beyond graduation day. The program equips students with the skills, resources, and connections needed to build successful careers and lasting economic stability.

Participants can access professional development workshops, financial literacy training, entrepreneurship education, internships, and industry mentoring opportunities. These experiences help students leave college prepared not only for employment, but for leadership and long-term success.

After three successful years, We Thrive continues to grow, strengthening its support network at Saint Paul College. By investing in the potential of BIPOC women and gender-expansive students, the program is helping create a future where opportunity is not limited by circumstance.

Because when students are given the support they need, they do more than graduate; they become innovators, advocates, and change agents who help others thrive along the way.
