Bloodborne Pathogens Immunization

All employees who are occupationally exposed to Bloodborne Pathogens shall have the HBV Vaccination series and annual training.  

Employees that are considered to be occupationally exposed include but are not limited to:

• Plant Operations Personnel,
• Safety and Security Officers,
• Culinary Arts,
• Medical Laboratory Technician,
• Nursing,
• Nursing Assistant, and
• Respiratory Care Technician Instructors.

The Federal OSHA law in effect requires that all employees who are occupationally exposed to Bloodborne Pathogens have a HBV Vaccination series made available at no cost to the employee.  

A series consists of three (3) shots – initial, second – a month later, and third – six months later. 

Employees are asked to go to their own health provider or wherever they wish to go. They should then provide a copy of the invoice of payment to the college. If insurance covers the cost, you need not present an invoice. 

If you do not want to receive the series, you must sign a statement of declination. 

The Safety and Health Officer keeps a list of all college employees who are receiving the vaccine and those who are declining. The Departments that are considered to be occupationally exposed include but are not limited to:

• Plant Operations,
• Safety and Security,
• Culinary Arts,
• Medical Laboratory Technician,
• Nursing,
• Nursing Assistant, and
• Respiratory Care Technician. 

All occupationally exposed employees are also to receive annual training. 

Clinical sites for Health Program students require that all students shall receive the HBV vaccination series or sign a declination statement. Students will be responsible for the cost of the vaccination series. The Dean of Health and Services keeps a list of all student employees who are receiving the vaccine and those who are declining. 

Students in other programs who are occupationally exposed are advised of their risk and must receive the HBV vaccination series or sign a declination statement.
