Mascot Development Timeline

August 2023

Saint Paul College forms the Mascot Development & Advisory Working Group, inviting students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners to help shape the college’s first-ever mascot.

October 2023

Community surveys and idea submissions begin. Hundreds of creative concepts are collected, ranging from animals to abstract symbols. Themes include wildlifeluminaries, and elements of energy.

November 2023

The Working Group reviews submissions and narrows the field. Guiding principles are finalized, emphasizing alignment with the college’s mission, values, and brand identity.

February 2024

Voting opens on four mascot finalists: Foxes, Hawks, Fireflies, and Comets. Each option reflects a different facet of Saint Paul College’s mission and values. Community members share feedback and cast votes, with Foxes gaining strong support for their cleverness, adaptability, and ability to thrive in diverse environments.

April 2024

After a spirited campaign and final week of community voting, the fox was selected through ranked-choice voting as Saint Paul College’s first-ever mascot. The decision reflected strong support for the fox’s cleverness, adaptability, and connection to Minnesota’s urban wildlife. Design prototypes began immediately, incorporating brand colors and community feedback.

October 2024

We began working with The Project Place—a locally owned, women-led soft goods and mascot creation studio based in Saint Paul. Known for creating nearly every recognizable local mascot, from TC Bear to Mudonna, The Project Place brought deep expertise and creative energy to the project. We knew we were in good hands as they helped shape Sky’s unique identity and infused our college’s mission into the mascot costume design.

January 2025

After careful consideration and community input, the name Sky is chosen. Inspired by the nocturnal nature of the fox and the vastness of the sky, the name evokes imagination, resilience, and limitless potential—perfectly aligned with Saint Paul College’s mission and blue brand identity.

May 2025

Sky, the blue fox, makes their first public appearance at Friends on the Lawn and Graduation. These milestone events mark the official launch of Sky’s presence on campus and in the community.
