Policy

Students shall have the right to establish a student government. The College student government shall have the right to recommend the chartering of clubs and organizations for approval by the College president. 

A constitution which defines the selection of student representatives and the ratification process for student government shall be created by the students establishing the student government. The student government will be recognized by the president or designee upon receipt of evidence that the student body has approved the constitution of the student government. 

The College shall follow the College student grievance process to appeal to the College president or designee of decisions made by the student government relative to chartering, funding, or providing service to student organizations when such decisions may be in violation of law or College policy.

02.01.00.1 – Campus Student Associations Procedure

The Student Senate is the official representative of the student body at Saint Paul College. The Student Senate is made up of an executive board, a representative from each of the College’s Student Associations and any Saint Paul College student who has obtained voting rights through regular participation in General Assembly meetings. Campus Associations provide many opportunities for student involvement and fall into two categories: 

  • Student Organizations: These are student led groups which are fully recognized by Student Senate and the Office of Student Life and Diversity. They MUST be open for all students to join, have a faculty/staff advisor, have a current Student Organization application or renewal form on file with the Office of Student Life, and attend monthly General Assembly meetings. In maintaining good standing each student organizations will receive $200 of annual funding from Student Senate. Additional funds can be requested via the Funding Request Form provide by Student Senate and the Office of Student Life and Diversity. 
  • Student Interest Groups: These are student led groups which are partially recognized by Student Senate and the Office of Student life and Diversity. They MUST be open for all students and have a current Student Interest Group application or renewal form on file with the Office of Student Life. They are NOT required to attend monthly General Assembly meetings and DO NOT require a faculty/staff advisor. In maintaining good standing each student interest group will receive $100 of annual funding from Student Senate. No additional funds may be requested for Student Interest Groups.
