The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program, a flagship initiative of the U.S. Department of State, recognizes outstanding individuals dedicated to advancing teaching and research through global collaboration. VanderWaal Mills’ achievement places her among an esteemed group of scholars committed to fostering international understanding and addressing complex global challenges.
“We couldn’t be prouder of Dr. Kristyn VanderWaal Mills,” said Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Greg Rathert. “Her enthusiasm for science, curiosity about the world, and commitment to her students and research are genuinely inspiring. This opportunity in Denmark aligns well with her talents and collaborative spirit. We look forward to seeing the connections she will establish and the discoveries she will make — and we will be supporting her throughout this journey.”
While in Denmark, VanderWaal Mills will focus on collaboration between University College Copenhagen’s (KP) Chemical and Biotechnical Science program and Saint Paul College’s Science and Engineering Technology program. VanderWaal Mills will organize a virtual exchange program for students to learn and discuss the challenges of being young science technicians. “I am beyond thrilled to represent two community colleges, Saint Paul College and KP, on an international stage often dominated by large universities,” said Dr. VanderWaal Mills. “Fulbright will provide new perspectives in teaching in our programs, student and faculty exchange of ideas, and international institutional collaboration. I look forward to an incredible experience for my family, our students, and myself as a professional.”
The Fulbright Program, established in 1946, has provided opportunities for over 400,000 accomplished individuals to study, teach, and conduct research in over 160 countries.
