Are you dreaming of a career in science but concerned about the costs and finding the right support? Anisa Mohamed turned those challenges into success through our Career and Academic Planning – Science and Health (CAP-SH) scholarship program. The goal of CAP-SH is to help students build their confidence and skills by exploring and developing their careers.

Anisa began her college journey online from Kenya in 2023, before relocating to Minnesota to pursue a healthcare career. The motto that guides her educational path is: “Everything is hard, but not if your heart is into it.” At first, she was intimidated by math, but she found joy in solving problems and seeing results. This turning point increased her desire to learn more. Still, she faced financial hurdles and needed leadership experience.
That’s when SPC faculty stepped in. With their guidance, Anisa earned a CAP-SH scholarship and became an SPC Student Ambassador – a role that opened doors to leadership, networking, and real-world experience. Today, she leads meetings, advocates for student success, and represents SPC science programs at major events, including hospital recruiting sessions. These opportunities helped her overcome shyness and build confidence in communicating with others.
The CAP-SH program isn’t just about providing funding; it’s about empowering students to explore careers, develop skills, and learn from mentors. Eligible majors for this program include Biology, Chemistry, Engineering Broad Field, Medical Laboratory Technician, Respiratory Therapy, and more. If you’re passionate about science, this program can help you reach your goals.
Spring 2026 CAP-SH Applications are now open! Apply today and take the first step toward a successful career in the sciences.
