With 15.5 million trucks operating in the United States, the demand for skilled truck technicians is growing by 9% annually, making it one of the​ fastest-growing industries in the nation.

The Median Hourly Wage in 2016 was $23.29, resulting in a yearly salary of $48,443 (Source: EMSI).

Our Truck Technician program covers traditional mechanical systems, as well as high-tech and computer-controlled systems, and will prepare you for a lifelong career in the industry.

The Truck Technician Diploma program at Saint Paul College provides hands-on training and teaches you the theoretical skills needed to succeed in today’s fast-paced trucking industry.

From day one, you'll use hand tools such as wrenches, sockets and impacts to disassemble, inspect and overhaul truck components. As you move on with your training, you will use advanced diagnostic tools, measurement devices, and computers in our state-of-the-art truck shop. Did you know that a modern truck can have up to 15 computers on board and communicates via satellite and cellular networks​?

To become a well-rounded truck technician, you'll need a solid foundation through classroom instruction. You will learn about pneumatics, hydraulics and electrical systems to help you become an effective truck technician.

Traditional in-class and hands-on training in state-of-the-art lab on Saint Paul College campus, St. Paul, MN​

Full-time enrollment is required

  • ​This is a two-year, full-time day program.  

  • It is recommended that the general education requirements be taken in the summer term before the first year or between the first and second years. 

Textbook and supply costs

The following are estimated costs: 

  • ​Textbooks: $450 

  • Tools: $1,000–$4,000 depending on brand of tools purchased

  • Diagnose a variety of problems accurately by using testing equipment
  • Determine whether components can be repaired or need to be replaced
  • Provide solutions for diesel engine emission challenges
